My Ideal Tablet

With only one week until the rumored Apple Event, one can only imagine what will be announced. Which of the rumors are real, and which are just a figment of our technology-craving imaginations? One rumor that does not seem to die is the fabeled Apple Tablet. What will it look like, which OS will it be running, and what can we expect from it? Here’s a look at my ideal Apple Tablet. Keep in mind, I am a student, so some of my requests are based on my education needs.

Looks

I am hoping the new tablet will feature a 10″ screen; 6″ screens are way too small to get anything done properly, and 11″ to 12″ screens are getting to the point where they are too large for compact travel. I am betting the tablet will look more like the iPhone, but if it is replacing the MacBook (like I believe) it could feature an all aluminium enclosure, à la the MacBook Pro. It would weigh-in at less than 3lbs, so traveling from class to class is no longer a strain on the back. I can’t decide which would be better, but in terms of connections, it would be great to have access to the same connections available on the MacBook Air (1 USB, 1 Mini-Display Port, 1 Audio In/Out Port) and an SD Card Slot. I can also imagine there being one connection – yes you heard me correctly – the 30-Pin iPod Connector. This could not only charge the device, but provide access to loads of accessories that have already been made, however in this case, I would definitely want to see the SD Card Slot – to upload pictures to the device quickly and painlessly.

Operating System

I want the computer to run Snow Leopard, but with a twist. I have this crazy idea of replacing Dashboard with the iPhone OS. This could match up with the videos [YouTube: Leaked Mac Tablet?] that made headlines across the blog-o-sphere. This would not only enhance the investment we made on Apps through the iTunes Store, but make the device much more functional. If I had to choose between an enhanced iPhone OS and Snow Leopard, I would probably pick the iPhone OS, but on one condition – it must be enhanced for education (Eg. Safari with Java and a proper notetaking application). I have too many applications that I would love to use on another device, that I can imagine making a student’s life much easier: iStudiez Pro, Appigo’s ToDo [iTunes Link] and AT&T’s Mobile Banking App [iTunes Link]. However, if it is just a larger iPhone I will not be interested.

Expectations

There are some things that I think would just be cool. When buying the aforementioned tablet, my plan is to also purchase a new 24″ iMac. I am hoping Apple will make it easier for the two devices to sync. Imagine using the tablet in class or a meeting, writing and taking notes, and then taking it home to sync with your desktop computer without having to do anything. Now that would be ideal!

I would love to hear what your Ideal Apple Tablet would look like. Let your imaginations run free in the comments below!
